Genealogy

Family and Local History

The Plains Genealogy Society records local history related to business, agriculture, settlers, buildings, oil, missile sites, the railroad, and local churches.
They published a Kimball County History book in 1988, of which a reference copy is available to patrons.
They have an archive of obituaries from the Western Nebraska Observer with currently over 7000 indexed and are working on more.
The library houses a collection of genealogy materials available for use. Volunteers are available to assist with genealogy records.

Davina Butler and Karen Bivens work weekly on increasing the libraries records. This includes family files, building files, business records, and much more. If you are interested in working with or researching any history information please contact us.

The library began the task of digitizing our historical records and files. The link above will take you to the records we have uploaded so far. Thanks to library staff and volunteers we are working to increase the number of searchable records every week. If you are looking for a file, document, or record that is not within this database feel free to call the library. We will be happy to get the information to you.

This project was made possible by a grant from the Nebraska State Historical Society. Special thanks go to the West Nebraska Family Research & History Center for being the website host for these files and to Carl and Karen Salazar for their many hours of volunteering to scan printed documents.
